Moving the rectifier
05/10/14 at 07:36:25

How hard is it to move the rectifier and wiring under the seat to the rear lighting? Do you need to remove the rear wheel? Is there enough wire to relocate it without doing any wiring mods? Thanks!

Remove airbox door under right side cover.  Unhook re/rec, place in airbox, drop wiring through airbox top intake and reconnect. Leave the door off...

The other wires you may need to stretch the harnesses. Run them under the fender rails if retaining them, otherwise, epoxy a conduit under the rear fender and run them through that. You will need to pull the rear wheel if you go the conduit route.

Note: The factory rear fender w/o a seat is uglier than a shaved down wormy dog's butt... You'll need to add a fender bib to hide all the lumps, bumps and holes.

To do this do I need to attach the rec inside the airbox? or does it just sit there inside the airbox? it wont mess with the intake?

It will sit out of the way in the bottom of the box. My 98 had it there from summer 99 until last year.

Sometime in 2004 I'd guess, I was still fat and the bike hadn't been totalled out yet by "Stinky", my stepson...

Yep, that's Pokey, my 1998 when it had 13.5" bars, stock tank and rear fender, same pipe it runs now and a 450 Rebel headlight.

I like the saddle bag. I got a WWII infantry pack at a garage sale for 5 bucks and rigged it.  Now I'm thinking of painting the bike camo green.

It had leather saddlebags but I took them off. Then one day in my grandparents shop I was looking for something and found it in a drawer. It was my grandpas field pack from when he was in the army. Right now it holds oil and a funnel until I fix the plug leak  Grin olive drab is probably how I would paint mine too. With a satin finish. But it would be years before I did that

I wedged mine in the airbox as well. No issues with it. I also put a fender bib on mine. This shot is when it was new. It has since been covered by my throw over bags. This is the one I bought: http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/fender-bib-plain-750-ace/part/M-78075
