Comparing insurance rates
05/02/14 at 12:25:18

I've had my truck and toy hauler insured with GMAC through the Good Sam Club/Camping World for several years now. I work for Camping World, so kept it all in the family and got a decent rate with both vehicles on the same policy.

When I bought my S40 last year, I figured they could just add it on. No such luck - had to get a separate policy. This became a billing nightmare, so I decided to start shopping around to put the bike with another company.

Wow, glad I did! I was paying $37/mo with GMAC (now National General).

Geico was about the same - $400 and change for a year.

Progressive is $137 for the whole YEAR!

Ironically, years ago I switched the truck and camper FROM Progressive, because GMAC was a better deal.

What gives?

insurance rates will vary from agent to agent to...

so you might shop around even from office to office.

So, shop around & shop around & get "the Deal".. all well & good..
& then ya Move,, & the same company's rates can climb or drop.,. depends on where ya moved..
I Like Progressives rates & the way they handled my claim,, really a class act. Paid for stuff I didnt expect them to pay for. I scuffed my REd Wings,, they paid for a new pair & left me with the old ones, Paid for new leather chaps, they were barely scraped,, I Dont like that little "Track my driving habits" box.. at ALL..

I pay Progressive $65/year for liability  on two motorcycles. (Note: Washington state does not require insurance on motorcycles, just cars, trucks and boats).

Also, I found it is not to my benefit to "bundle" my policies with one insurance company. In the past when I did this, they would use one policy (auto) to raise the deductible and premiums on other policies (house).

I'll shop each policy individually. Since I only deal with companies that send electronic bills to my bank ("Ebills"), the additional bills are not a problem.

In WA, full coverage on my custom 98 Savage was $86/year through Progressive.

Here in TN, full coverage on my 2003 is $162.50/year through Nationwide. People who complain about Seattle-Pornland-Lost Angeles traffic should really try driving/riding in Memphis... you'll go home shaking and sucking your thumb, never to return... Most Memphians have little to no formal driver's training, and the poorer blacks have no license or insurance.

I pay $52 / year for liability on mine with Direct.  It's old enough that they won't even consider comprehensive or collision.

I thought Canuckistan was anything east of Cannabinoidia...  Wink BC does grow the best herb on the continent outside of Alaska...
