Does my bike sound weird?
04/30/14 at 15:18:55

Hey guys again! I've recently posted a video of a test I did with some recording gear and I'd like to get your feedback on if my bike sounds decent. I've heard some other idle sounds on youtube in regard to the ls650 and they seem slower. So here's the video.

Sounds ok to me.  You don't want it to idle lower than 1,200 or so as there are no camshaft bearings, only the aluminum journals which can be damaged due to insufficient oil delivery at low rpm's

That's on the high side of normal.. it's a good safe idle speed...
Yer' cam will be happy with that...
Bike sounds real good...

One tip,... having that many keys hanging from your ignition switch, will eventually break it...
...(the way it breaks...is the keys fall out,... so you will loose all those keys on the road somewhere)...
Best bet,.. is to keep your bike key separate from the others...

If yer' keys fall out of the ignition in your car,.. they fall on the floormat... on a bike, they hit the highway... somewhere...
Wink...

Yep. Mine does that too after doing all the carb and muffler mods. It runs great so I'm not messing with it. I could probably spend a couple weekends chasing the "POOT", but it's not worth the effort to me.  SmileySmall price to pay for better performance.

Sounds normal to me too.  Maybe a little high, hard to tell on video, but that's ok.  BTW, nice job with the turn signals! You never see anyone signal around here. Cool

Here's the thing with with the "poof" after shut-off...
You don't tune a bike to behave after you turn off the key...
The poof is the result of the final rotation of the engine, after the ignition is turned off,.. (the heat of the exhaust, then ignites that fuel)...  Poof!...
It's of no consequence to tuning...
You can minimize it,.. with technique...
...but you shouldn't try to tune it away...
Tune your bike to run,.. fully warmed up, in normal weather...
Not to start,.. not to shut off...
Tune it to run...

Yep, sounds like a lawnmower. Idle is a touch high, but other than that, it seems normal.

If my bike didnt grumble & growl gearing down & make some noise Id be unhappy. I tune for running, & Usually Id get some "statement" out of it when I shut it off..

Sounds like an LS650 to me, the shifts sounded a little clunky, but the engine sounds good  Wink
