Savage 2008, leak of traction when rising
04/23/14 at 15:58:11
when I am climbing on a cold weather mountain the traction stops suddenly by 2 or 3 seconds, the engine never dies, it continues accelerating but it does not pull, and then when the motorcycle runs again it produce an explosion at the back pipe.
The fail is always at the same geographic place. is on the freeway going up at 10200 ft. What could it be. Help please.
It is the same sensation when you are running on the motorcycle and the motorcycle ask you to move the fuel valve to reserve because of the low fuel.

If Im readin that right, that sounds like a description of slippage.. but, it doesnt fit with the rest of the story,,

Another clutch slipping issue?
Steep incline?
Type of oil?
Checked belt tension lately?

Climbing a hill, you hear backfire, and you feel as though you have to switch your petcock to reserve?
If so, yes, this sounds like a problem with the vacuum operated petcock.
Change your petcock to the Yamaha Raptor manual petcock, it does not rely on vacuum, and is not sensitive to changes in air pressure.

I had to switch to the Raptor petcock for the same reason. I have to climb a 400ft hill every day commuting to work (small compared to your mountain). Every morning, when I get to the top of the hill, I'd have to switch to "Prime" to stop it from stalling and backfiring.
The petcock is Yamaha part number 5LP245000100 - I remember paying about $25 USD with shipping.

there is a mod in the tech section, convert your petcock to on-off-reserve.. the raptor petcock is less work though

Just curious where there is a freeway almost 2 miles high?
Good hunting
