Exhaust bolts

Apparently I have lost my two exhaust bolts that secure the exhaust pipe to the head. I will find them as soon as order and pay for replacements. It always works this way for me. Mu question is whether anyone has used different bolts that I can obtain from a auto or hardware store. Right length and thread size. I have called my dealer and a couple of other places but I was told it would take up to two weeks for them to replace them. Been a long crappy winter and spring and now I'm ready to ride except for the bolts. If anyone could help I would appreciate it. I will delete this post soon either way. Thanks

Unfortunately not, but I recall them being about an inch and 3/4 at least. You can probably stick a piece of wire in the hole and see if it bottoms out then measure the wire and subtract about a quarter inch to be safe

No, but I know the bolt is a 12mm and it isn't a "super fine thread" just a standard thread. I'd do the "stick something in the hole and measure where it bottoms out" then go a little shorter (don't forget to add the width of the mounting flange to the measurement). At the cost of bolts at Ace you can buy a couple different sizes and take the ones that don't work back. I do that all the time with plumbing supplies. Wink

Re: Exhaust bolts Reply #5 - 04/23/14 at 18:09:22 & remember, only snug them when its cold & its a LOT better to need to re-snug than to rip the threads outta the head,, Fingers on the 1/4" ratchet, thumb on the head, slightly close the fingers in,rinse & repeat, feel for it,,
