I actually have two types of this problem     Anyway, my fuel cap started to leak after less than a year(from new)     Is this common ?     Is there an easy cure ?

Pretty common problem, although, I haven't had any issues with it...yet.  Just teach yourself not to fill it up so far.

There's no problem that a full tank of gas and a sunny day can't fix!

Whenever I fill my tank, I grab a couple of paper towels from the dispenser.
Then, leaving the gas station, I stop at the end of the driveway - it spills and dribbles back towards my right knee. I mop it up with the paper towels, and then I tell myself - "Remember to stop overfilling the tank, dummy!". This cycle has repeated hundreds of times.

There's a collar in the fill opening, don't fill above that.  And, remember to grab a couple of paper towels  Smiley

There's also a thread on here...see Verslagen's post above about how to fix the gasket and stop the leaking.

I've found that mine will leak if I just gently put the cap in.  If I give it a firm tap afterwards, it doesn't leak.
