My bike does´nt run right on acceleration...
04/08/14 at 01:00:14

Hi
new here, just bought an LS 650-98
original and stock specs as far as I know..
runs good at idle and in low and mid range but has no strenght and feel very sluggish on acceleration, doesn´t rev up as it should.

the bike has run 32000 km and I live in Sweden.
any suggestions where I should start?
/Thomas

If it hasnt had a cam chain, its time.
If youre not sure the gas is fresh, dump the gas & put fresh in it,
Check the air cleaner, for sure.

Thanks for your response Smiley
I will disassembly the carb and clean it, not sure if it has all the corrrect pieces cause today the idle mix screw turned it self loose and vanished...

the, now missing piece, did not look as on the pictures I´ve seen here
mine was so long that it was flush with the housing of the carb, no room for a plug at all..

Can of course be that there is variants that I don´t know about Wink

Sounds like the jetting is wrong, so they adjusted it out, making it loose, it went away. Is the exhaust stock? What your elevation above sea level?
Look at the jets in the carb & make note of them, tell us.

That is what I thought too, but tried screwing it in all the way   it was still flush with the housing....

well, now it is gone anyway Smiley

Yes, stock exhaust and airfilter.

89 meters above sea level, I will check the jets and tell you.
Thanks

Any of you tuners have an idea why anyone would pop the cover off the idle air screw with a stock exhaust? Or did they have it capped off back then?

Some Euro- spec carbs had different mixture screws I think. I remember a discussion about that on here a while back.

Hi
checked the carb now, this is what I found:

main jet:  125 or 135, hard to read Wink
pilot jet: 47,5
Jet needle 5C16 ...
and the spacer present on the needle.
Missing the pilot screw, lost it due to vibrations....

What would you put in if I have the following changes?

K&N High flow air filter
Dyna muffler

and who can sell me what I need?  Wink
would any pilot screw do, thinking about what oldNslow wrote?

/Thomas

Well there's your problem....you got tiny little jets!

Here is some good info.

I am not sure where you would get jets where you live....maybe find someone that will do international shipping.

From the size of those jets, I'd ask the question.

Was your bike sold as a low hp beginner's model in a graduated liscense country?

If so, then look for a restrictor washer between the carburetor and the engine.   You need to remove this washer and rejet the bike to develop full stock HP.

Then read the list for all the mods that take it beyond stock HP.

I have no idea, seems to been sold in Germany as new, later imported to Sweden.

I will check for a washer.

Thanks
