I'm a former Ninja 500 owner,...(crashed it)...
... and a windshield hater...
It's head buffeting I can't stand...
Once,... out of 50 bikes I've ridden, I rode a V-Star with a windshield big enough to not cause buffeting... it was ridiculously large, and I looked through it, not over it,... but it did work...
I just can't imagine one that big, on a Savage...
So,.. I recently got a Sportster... and the factory shield buffeted like mad...
The stock Savage shield did fit and it was better,.. but still annoying... so I incrementally notched the headlight hole, and lowered it, an inch at a time...
3 trims.. got it down to 11" from the top of the headlight, and all the buffet is below my neck...
A flyscreen is 9" (I believe)... it won't cause head buffet, and it has to do something...
I've learned 11" is my max...
The Sporty also has midset footpegs... and they are way more comfy...
My Savage is tolerable with the slight forward foot position,... but, I have a 2" front seat lift and 2" over shocks... which allows posting from a taller seat position...
Anyway... no real advice... just personal experience...
... and,.. there's more than one way to skin a cat...
Every part, interacts with every other...
Raise this, lower that...
...
PS... nothing trims a windshield better than one of those Multi-tool, vibrating cutter/sanders... (I used the half moon blade...
Harbor Freight sells them cheap...
(Pardon the giant pic...
