Went to Wally World and picked up the Dell 100 speedo computer... $12.95.

I have one on the wife's 2001 savage, It is a good trip meter for gas refill time. I just left the wheel dia. at its default and it works perfect on the wifes savage, so mine should be ok also.

Pulled the tank off, top of the motor is DRY, only wet is the electrical under the oil tank, makes me think the oil is traveling UP the speedo cable and leaking at the top.
Is that possible? It is dripping on the clutch cable and running down it and then driving air is splashing it onto the battery box and side panel...some on the seat too.
Is there supposed to be a seal on the top connection of the speedo cable?
The whole top of the engine is dry, no oil anywhere.... the oil starts at the electric bundle on the top of the right side brace and runs onto the clutch cable then down the cable and I guess the wind blows in onto the battery box, i'm stumped.

Clamped the speedo cable outter shield (where it looked like oil was coming from) and also taped it really tight.
The gasket I made for the speedo cable lower might be allowing the oil to travel up in side, and case pressure might be forcing it to spit out.
Its a reach, but its the only explanation I can come up with.

Going to take it for a ride tomorrow and see if it leaks after my "fix".

Speedometer cable acts as a wick. The 2003 leaks like mad from the cable. The 98, which has had the cable boss uncovered since 2005, doesn't leak a drop there. When it did have a speedometer cable, it leaked like mad as well.

Well known Savage quirk. Adds a bit of Brit bike character.

What is that big trunk and backrest from?  My wife wants a back support that has arm rests - and I can't find one that fits the Givi top box.  It might be easier to get a box like the one you have and mount it than it would be to adapt something to the Givi.

Trunk is from a Harley Davidson big bike, it is called an Ultra Tour Pack (rack, arm rests, speakers, antenna and side lights.

There are a couple different styles of tour packs.....and there are some knock offs also, just search e-bay or amazon for motorcycle hard bag or trunk.

Ok, did the test drive today, fixed the silly leak, held 65mph for about 15 minutes and a couple spurts to 70mph (tried to build up pressure), got home no leak.

But......  the pipe was so hot that the vibration pads under the heat shield came out... the glue that held it on melted.
And the pipe is so blue its almost black.

I'm thinking its because I still might have an air leak from the Dyna install, that sound right?

Since it's the header that's hot, I suggest a little richer main.
the pads are normally glued to the heat shield, that's pretty hard to heat up.

Should I try backing out the air/fuel mix screw? Its running good, but I can still fiddle with it a bit (washers/mix screw).

That's your idle, raising your needle could help.

do you have any surging at a constant 30 to 50?

Nope, no surge, but one of the first things I did was the washer mod... I have 2 washers in there... should I go for three?

Right now its pretty snappy, but I think the wifes snappier in second, and both bikes are set up the same... cept i'm not sure how many turns the air/mix is turned out on mine.

Oh.. and her's still surges a little at 50-55, very minutely but noticeable.

How's your top end?

Obvious 2nd gear envy, you need more racing stripes.

mid range surging suggests her top end maybe a little lean... how's her top end?
Shocked  I mean have you've done the full throttle back off test?

Top end on mine is good... its snappy through all ranges... seems to me.

Her top end is a little lean  Roll Eyes...errr... but the bike is the same, although it seems a little better in the midrange on accel.

Nope have never done the "full throttle back off"

I'm still getting some pops between gears when I let off the throttle to upshift and occasionally when i'm downshifting.

Check the connections at the header and muff, most likely you gotta leak.
