2001 LS650 savage...work in progress

Well I went and picked up "my" savage today, it is a 2001 LS 650 Savage, sky blue (what???), with a wind screen (scratched) and saddle bags.
It has 3798 on the odo... wow.. not even broken in!
Paid a whole 1,500 bucks for it...
Now to make it mine... already ordered (yesterday) a raptor petcock for it and will start cleaning it up tomorrow, it has some salt air corrosion on it, but all in all looks really good.
It has an oil leak, maybe the bolts, maybe the plug.. I will clean it up and see.

Good job old-rider. Very recently you said you had decided on another Savage and today you already have one. I've noticed that you don't mess around, once you make up your mind you get it done.
I assume this is the one you want to make lighter with alloy or plastic fenders etc.

$1,500.00 leaves a lot of room for upgrades! Nice find!

Going to clean it up and maybe set it up for the run to the dragon this summer..... going to work on making it lighter after this riding season.
What I want to do is going to take me longer than two months
Wife says I have to get my body fixed first, then I can mess with my ride... LOL I am at least going to mount some kind of back rest for me....maybe use that ultra-tour pack from the harley

Took off the seats, did some cleaning/degreasing/polishing.
Added a trickle charging plug, and opened up the drain hose... ack... oily gas liquid, pulled the air filter... wet... fuel in box. Glad I ordered the raptor before I picked up the bike.
Going to leave it like it is (no seats and charging) until the raptor petcock gets here.
Well, I might actually put the extra dyna I have on the shelf on it, and pull the tank and do the washers on the needle.

That's a great deal! Good luck with your project. That picture with the bike on the trailer reminds me of my old neighborhood in Crestview, FL.

OK cool! I bought a cool looking set of vintage leather bags on Ebay and they didn't fit. I'll be selling them on eBay I guess...
