Any ideas for polishing oxidized spokes??

Does anyone have some cheap ways to cean and polish spokes? I've heard that toothpaste works on aluminum, but does it work the same on steel? I've tried fine steel wool and mothers mag polish and it seems to help a little, but it's very labor intensive... Any easier, faster ways on the cheap?

You didn't like what was said in the post just down the page from the one you posted?

So far the best approach is a parachute chord with the middle pulled out.  Wrap it around the spoke with your favorite metal polish.....and go to work.
