Should I go to Sturgis?
03/17/14 at 18:37:28

It occurred to me today that the Sturgis motorcycle rally is just a couple hundred miles down the road from my new home. I want to go gawk at all the cool bikes and ride in a big ol' pack.
I just don't know anybody going, is Sturgis just a bunch of old timers? Will a man in his mid twenty's on a little Japanese motorcycle be welcomed with open arms?

I know those things don't matter however I want some opinions, advice, and experiences from the group.

Boo

I wanted to go last year but couldn't get anyone else to ride to it with .  Roll Eyes

Its a 1300 mile ride from my house , Three days there and three back Plus a couple of days to ride around the area ... Ten days total +- ... Huh

I'm retired , is the only reason I could go !   Tongue

I've rode my little Savage with the bigger bikes before and as long as the interstate is not involved all is OK !    no body in their right mind goes over 70 in a 55 , most of the time I woin't do a bit over 63 in a 55.

so

The question ??? about  "Little Jap Bike being welcome"   Most folks get smarter as they get older and it doin't take a lot of sence to know "Biking ain't about the machine"  , " Its the Love to Ride" , (anybody gives ya any lip , just take em to a stretch of curvey road and shut-em-up ) !  Wink

I went to Daytona last week and there were lots of different bikes there, but we were all "Bikers" . Cool

So "Go for it " Smiley

If I ever go to Sturgis,... it'll be in the off season...

Naaaa,... my goal is Isle O Man... in the off season...
...(just want to stay at a bed n' breckie, eat some kippers and eggs, and do a few laps)... drink a pint, or 4... Huh...

...but,.. I'd love to see pics... Wink...

I'd go, if I were closer...
Be mad not to. Hey if you don't like it, you're close enough to turn round and go home...

I rode thru Sturgis on Memorial Day a few years back. Not as many as when they have their rally but still tons of bikes. Bikers of all ages on all kinds of bikes from BMW's to Mopeds. My 650 got quite a bit of attention because you do not see many of them. Don't worry about fitting in on a Jap bike because that is not what it is about. If your on a motorcycle to most your just another biker.   Problem is during the rally, you almost have to make motel, hotel or camping reservations a year ahead, or else be prepared to camp 50 miles every night from the rally. Once I was riding in Montana on my way back from Glacier National Park just as the Sturgis rally was ending and that was cool! Thousands of bikes going home in every different direction. You would be riding alone and then all of a sudden you would be cruising along with 20 or 30 motorcycles. If you get a chance to go, you should!

Yeah, I dont really care what people think of the bike. I have an army buddy who is actually from there so camping might not even be an issue I guess they are allowed to let something like up to nineteen people stay in their yard over the festival by law. I dont want to go out there alone if I cant find a way to secure my gear at the campground.
I really hope I can find somebody to ride with out there, its hard to imagine that many people all in one place anywhere in South Dakota. Grin
This sure did make me want to go a lot more though.

Tincanman and I have been several times and he usually goes every year and we've both gone with our S40's and have always had a really good response to them. Every time we have also ran into other people riding them and you pretty much instantly hit it off with them.

If it is still hosted by the cheating, thieving stinking liars from the CMA, it isn't worth the trip.

Been twice, once before the CMA took over, once after. Before was fun, after sucked.

Big Sturgis in SD? Y'all can keep it. Went in 93, once was more than enough.

Anybody else up for a ridding weekend ?

Speed limit on the parkway is 50mph so just "idle-ing along" on the big singles would be kinda nice !

What's with the trashing of the CMA ?

The local CMA groop is "Too Good " if anything !
    They drive senceable
They do fund-raisers for needy folks
They Laugh a lot , but try not to hurt other peoples fellings

Mabby you meet up with  a different groop ?   But remember no matter how hard we try ... nobody is perfect or no-groop either  Huh

Funds disappearing that were earmarked for the community...

CMA members competing in the bike games on trikes, in events designed to test 2 wheeled handling skills...

Miniature video and still remote triggered cameras in the showers...

Non-CMA raffle and 50/50 drawing tickets removed from the containers...

Convicted felons on night time "roving security patrols"...

Thefts of fuel, supplies, camping gear, saddlebags, riding gear...

Motorcycles vandalized...

Supposed to be a family friendly, children welcome event. Who were the first ones to have nude (and lewd) women on their motorcycles, in the public eye? Give you 3 guesses, and it was not any of the well behaved 1%ers in attendance...

Bunch of scared little sheeple playing dress up.
