A different carb jet question

Do the numbers on the jets actually mean anything (like gallons or pounds per hour) or are they just part numbers?

the number stamped on the jet corresponds to the number of cubic centimeters of gasoline which will flow through the jet when poured in a certain calibration of a height of a certain centimeter rate
