smoke damage
03/11/14 at 17:54:11

Hi, I had a pretty bad fire in my garage. I was able to put it out before it burned the house down and before it got to my bike. But the garage was so filled with smoke that it covered everything, including my bike with soot. I washed my bike and was able to get the soot off of the paint but now my clutch and brake handle and almost all of the metal and plastic is discolored. Does anyone know how I can restore it back to its formal glory? My bike is only 3 years old.

Metal polish and LOTS of elbow grease?

all the shiney stuff has a clear coat.
i'd try polishing first but you might have to strip it.

Toothpaste works pretty well for cleaning jewelry.  Maybe try it and see if it helps.  Just a thought...

The green 3M scrubby pads is what I used to strip the clear off the engine cases. A spray bottle with water helps. I tried sandpaper, PITA,, I tried a few things,, but the green scrubby pads worked the best.
