bike has asthma
02/17/14 at 18:29:59

Hey Guys.

my bike is running like it has asthma, or it sounds like it has asthma. it spits and sputters during decelerating and I get the ocassional kapow, I also am getting a little pow when I change gears but this has just started and its not every gear change.
I also notice that the idle is very low while the bike is cold and usually have to start the bike with the choke out a notch. the last thing my bike does is it will shutdown as I apply throttle when I am waiting at the lights.

Now all of this started happening after I did an oil and oil filter change, about a month ago, I also remember running it out of gas and having to switch to reserve a couple times too, then all of a sudden I start getting these problems. Before these problems the bike was running sweet with hardly any pops at all and definately no stalling at lights.

Sorry I am a noob.

I change the oil and oil filter at about 30+ ks and its currently at 38ks.

Thanks in advance. anyhelp is much appreciated.

FYI My bike is stock to my knowledge, I havent done any mods.

I havent lost any power at all, it still runs ok but does sound off.

from my numerous searches on here, Ive come up with a few could be's.

clogged pilot jet?

float needle stuck?

could just need seafoam?

need a carb clean?

those are just a few that I can think of that might be the reason but like I said, Im a noob and dont really know anything.

Cheers.

Do this test...
http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1251932429/1

Petcock failures are very common...

... and keep your idle speed up...
This ain't a Harley....  (you don't want a rough, stumbly,  lope,.. you want a steady purrrrrrr), (too low will not give sufficient oil pressure to lube the overhead cam... that's very bad)...
