Re-Installing front turn signal brackets
02/13/14 at 18:25:54

I have to reinstall the OEM front brackets and lights to pass inspection in Hawaii. (this is the cheapest option...).  How do I get the OEM brackets on the fork tubes?  Do I have to disassemble the handlebar assy and the top of the tube bracket and side them down or is there a trick that makes this really easy??   Undecided

If I have to disassemble, do I need to do any special steps to get everything back together straight?

Unfortunately you need to remove the top caps and loosen the lower pinch bolts and lift the front to slide the tubes down enough to get them on.  There is a recess in the upper tree for the tubes so reassembly is rather easy with no misalignment.

Why Stock? If you need front signals, you need signals,, If you want to be able to remove them, fake up a mount that clamps around the tube w/o having to slide down it,
You need something that clips together on one side & clamps,, & has a way to hold the lite.
Or, its take the front end apart some,,
My idea wouldnt be as clean & tidy as stock, but wouldnt require taking forks loose, Good luck, either way,,

HEY! WaitaMINNIT! YOure in Hawaii? You need to look up Savage Wahine, that gal can do anything you need. If I was lookin for her Id hang around the theater crowd, I think she builds props & costumes. She made a nice tank bib AND she did the fork seals, Shes a keeper, man,,wish she still came around here,,
& which island? I havent the foggiest notion,, someone may.,,.

Yeah I looked at some other options but this was the cheapest.  In Hawaii they require the lights follow the ISO standard and they measure the lights to make sure they are big enough.  So, unfortunately this is the best way to go.

I'm gonna move the fronts up high so they don't stick out so much and the rears will mount without the chrome rails, directly to the fender closer to the front, under the seat.  It was customized when I bought it and I really don't want to mess with the rails.  I will have to fab some brackets for the rear lights.  Maybe I'll take pics of the whole process for anyone else that needs the info later

Use these clamps........................easy on & off without removing the handle bars, etc.

The eBay listing says these clamps fit anything with 39mm fork tubes........But the Savage has 38mm for tubes?

Dave,

I have seen similar clamps, in various sizes, including 38 MM, probably on eBay. Do not over tighten the screws.

I've seen people wrap a strip of innertube around a fork, pulled tightly to thin it down, then put clamps on like that. It not only snugs things up, it eliminates vibration and possible scratching on the tubes from the clamps.
