Bonneville seat or similar?

Hello all, I am looking to swap the stock seat for something along the lines of a bonneville / brat style / banana seat / bench seat.. (All the same if I'm not mistaken)
Ive only seen one person on the search here thats done it, and was wondering what all it would entail. I'd like to keep the stock rear fender and lights but am definately open to any suggestions. Problem is RYCA tracker seat is expensive and was looking to keep whole process in a budget seeing as the bike cost me 1500$!
On first glance after taking the seat off, I'll have to remove the rear fender and the chrome sissy bar / sides. Rework the rear turn signals, then the hard part of finding a seat that would fit.
Anyone can possibly point me in the right direction or give me some ideas?

Reply #1 - 01/21/14 at 18:37:04 You might have to raise the front of the seat with some sort of mounting frame. Then the front and rear will be pretty much level with each other with the added benefit of increasing the seat height, giving you enough room to move.

Yea that sounds like a good idea. I can fab a seat mount for the front or maybe just some tabs to bolt onto. This guy has done some of the work for me:

From the looks, the rear seat holder needs to be removed, as well as potions of the chrome sissy bar holder. And as he did - the rear light needs to be moved down the fender also.

When you put on a seat without the big dip behind the tank - there is plenty of room under the seat in that location to mount the rectifier.

I have the Bonneville seat in the mail, once it gets here ill take some pics to keep all informed on the progress, and with any questions I may have. I'm a total newbie at this; but I LOVE this bike- it's my first, and I hope to have it for a long long time!

Wish the guy in the link did a little more updates, and I love his custom brat style seat, but the Bonneville seat still looks great and has a Standard look to it (without the mid controls) ill keep all posted and update this thread as I make progress!

Just an update. Bonneville seat arrived from eBay! I had the sissy bar and replaced the side rails with the S40 ones (without the sissy bar rise). Upon first look, as was stated in the reference thread: rear tail light will be relocated to the end of the rear fender, rectifier will be relocated to directly under driver portion of seat. As of right now I'm looking at a universal seat mount to hinge the front, then maybe some kind of 'T' mount under to bolt the sides. Just thinking out loud, any ideas always welcome!
