Lost Key, Key Code
01/21/14 at 06:56:31

Your ignition key code is embossed on a one inch strip of black tape on the side of your ignition cylinder.  Remove the ignition switch (one allen bolt) and you can see it.  It is hard to see, just hold it in the right light.  I got a new one made with the code at a locksmith for under 20.00.  They weren't that much cheaper than the dealer's price, actually.

I recently had to do this to mine i thought it would be engraved but to my surprise it was a sticker. I have also heard that the code is suppose to be on the underside of the gas cap but never found one on mine.

This would be great info if you put your year.

But it makes sense to remove the key code so you can't order a key for any old bike found on the road... might belong to someone.
