Will the controls need to be rewired? or is there enough slack?

Hi.
I replaced the stock dragbar on my 1988 4ps. Savage with a 30 or 32" dragbar (same OEM risers) and the wires were juuust right.
I had to renew the brake line, though, so I went for braided hose

The drags have just enough for them and that's it.But if you shorten your risers, depending on how high the bars are.You MIGHT get away with it.

I replaced 05 drag bars with Biltwell Frisco bars. Had to do some modding. Removed risers from equation. but still used the handlebar clamps. In order to do this I had to buy some longer bolts to fit down in clamps and go through triple tree. Once that was mounted, I could mount my bars. I had just enough slack after taking brake line out of holders. Right now my brake line is zip tied in a few places to keep it from just being loose. Also had to fiddle with throttle cable a bit and slightly twist throttle control so cable would have a bit of slack. Should I have gotten new cables? Probably. But I'm cheap and it works for me. BTW my bars are 7" rise I believe.
Definitely do some measuring and what not, but really I just started in and fixed as I went....isn't that the way youre supposed to do it?
Good luck!

I'm thinking of doing the same to my 05
. On the Biltwell site it has the Kestone handlebars listed with a 5" rise? As this is my first time working on handlebars, I sure would appreciate any tips on grip replacement!
Nick, can you tell me what size bolts you used to go through the triple tree?
Thanks.

I'm thinking of getting the 1" bar and i THINK the stock bar is 1", so hoping i can reuse the stock risers.

duckman, I would think the 5" rise should be fine. as far as size, I honestly cannot remember. I just took the little mounting bar in the store and got the size that fit down in there. I got the same kind of hex keyed bolt head though, that way it would slid down in the recess. and for grips, just whatever you want, in a 1". I got some Kung Fu grips from biltwell and love them, but the throttle tube is too long, so about half an inch shows on the inside. If i get time, and you haven't already got the parts, I'll take my bars off and take some shots of everything and measure. might be next weekend though.
sesamestreet, yea, stock is 1" and I reused the flat piece that held the drag bars on top of the risers. so you should be good.

So you're saying the throttle tube can't be reused?

Nick, if you could take a few pics that would be great
. Like Sesamestreet asked, did you use the stock throttle tube, I'm thinking of going with black coke bottle grips.

You can reuse the throttle tube. I reused the stock tube with coke bottle grips on a hybrid Keystone/ Frisco bar.

Yea. I reused throttle tube. The grips I got are just shorter so the inside shows a little. I will try to take some shots as soon as i get a chance.
