Just back from the Burt Monroe, The Worlds Fastest Indian festival in Invercargill NZ. The group I was travelling with all had larger, better or more powerful bikes, Harley Sportster 1200, large 1400cc Harley cruiser, two 800 plus cc Triumph Daytona's, a 650cc Triumph modern twin thing and a 1986 Kawasaki 1000 cc cruiser. All these riders have significant years and miles under their belts, ranging from 1924 Harley J's, 1917 leather belt drive Triumphs, club circuit racers and so on. All were impressed with the S40's ability to keep up. Mind you no one was over 75 mph for long as the NZ legal limit is about 62 mph. I covered about 2187 miles and the longest day was about 435 miles, which even with an Airhawk cushion is enough on an S40 for a 64 year old. Met the Suzuki/Harley distributor in Dunedin, while I was looking at a superb display of antique to modern bikes in the Otago museum. He says that the new Harley 500 will be targeted, at among other things "people who buy Savage, LS650, S40". This gentleman is a highly respected and extremely knowlegeble member of the Vintage Car Club of NZ with many superb bike restorations under his belt, I had neither the courage or the skill to tell him where to put his 2014 Harley 500. During the trip I saw heaps of Harley's, Norton's to die for, Guzzi's to fart over. One Hesketh, Honda's Yammi's, Sawakaki's by the ton, and a one armed, one legged man who doesn't disgrace himself at beach, circuit, or hill climb racing. The love affair with my un bobbed, un modded stock S40 grows in .leaps and bounds.
