What a bummer! Is it a part you can replace instead of parting out the whole motor? Check Ebay, there's a lot of stuff there and some of the sellers ship internationally. If you're dead set on parting it out, what do you have and what's broken on it, you could probably sell it on eBay too.

Cry?...
Not really...
I do believe Savage engine parts are pretty valuable in New Zealand...
... or,.. get another Savage and you have a spare parts bike...
There's a few NZ members right here on the site...
Maybe you can hook up and do some swappin'... n' make some new friends...

going to see a place tomorrow that maybe able to weld it back on,they specialize in race cams and stuff, and do hard welding,so maybe able to resurrect it,not to hopeful at this stage as it's close to a bolt hole

it's still in the sealed bag it came in,still best to oil it or will it be fine in bag? Does anyone know if an '87 cam shaft be the same as an '86? They look similar but I can't see the numbers on the cog clearly

mine says 24B

Just what was it that broke? The cam gear?

where the cog bolts onto the cam,the motor has been pulled apart before, the wee tabs that stop the bolt undoing had been pulled back before,I'm guessing a torque wrench wasn't used on reassembly, rather pleased I found this now and not doing 120 on the motorway

If you are speaking of the cam gear, I have spares.
If you want one I will send it for the cost of shipping.

Id be suspicious of that being something other than too much torque.
How long have you had this bike?
As you say, someone has been in there.
Are we looking at parts that have been cleaned? Where is the other end?
Can you account for the small bits & pieces?
Id have a real close look at everything behind where the cam gear goes & look for any pry mark on the head. Some idiot may have been trying to change the chain w/o pulling the head cover & pried on that thing.
If it were just a torque issue Id expect stripped threads or a busted bolt.
If it was a chunk of crud between the cam sprocket & the cam, between the bolt hole & axis, that would pull the tab the bolt threads into toward the gear & could cause a crack that would do that KIND of damage. The missing piece shows the ear on the cam was moved outward.
If there was much of a crack you should have seen oil infiltration into the source of it, Did you?
