..... and you thought Google Loon wireless free internet service was really "out there" ......

Cheesy      Hey, Honey, we really needed it when we were out in the woods camping ..... so we paid the $10 to have it flown in.

And I wonder how many flying robots will make it back?

They should make them so you open the container and get your stuff, then slide the container back under it, then press a return to home button, save on cartons.

+1

I see many poor little defenseless drones being grabbed and sold on a black market.  We are becoming a nation of petty thieves.

Also who wants a bunch of drones invading everyone's air space like a bunch of mosquitoes.

I think the drone drops the box and returns home.    When you get your stuff and respond on line that the box is ready, the drone comes and picks it back up, or at Amazon's choice they can tell you to simply put it in the mailbox for return service.

But Amazon is hardly alone in this endeavor. TacoCopter wants to deliver Mexican food by air (but probably won’t be able to for a while). Zookal wants to delivery textbooks by unmanned drone in Australia. And now it looks like UPS may be looking to use drones in addition to trucks in some situations.

The plans are all pretty much just plans for now — federal regulators still need to set guidelines for drones flying to and fro before the skies start filling up with them. But it’s looking increasingly likely that in a few years drones will be doing more than spying on you.

With as congested as air traffic is already and how overworked Air Traffic Controllers are do they really think this is gonna work?

They're either gonna' see prey,.. or a threat...

Birds aren't stupid as hunters and they see really really well.

Them whirrling noisy blades are going to be a form of natural bird deterrent.

Next, the copters can fly on 3 propellers operating, this is the service performance margin on the device.

In short, it will work .....

Why will AMAZON continue to pursue this?

WHY ARE UPS AND FEDEX PURSUING THIS?

It costs $5 per package now to deliver by truck, driven mostly by fuel and employee wages.

People will pay for convenience and for those towns with air drone hubs the local delivery cost is mainly electricity and drone maintenance.

What you will see is UPS installing an air hub in each city they currently keep any kind of sorting facility.   Ditto for FedEx.

Within 2 years, every city will have an air drone hub.

Within 2 years, you will be doing the "pick the package up in back yard" deal too.   You will simply go to the spot (+/- 3 yards) that is tree free that is inside your fence, crank up the phone app for the delivery service and let your phone tell the service the exact GPS coordinates of where you want the packages to always land.

Women LIKE instant gratification.    Women will want this sort of service from WalMart, from the grocery store, etc.

===========================

Paradim shift time ---- why even have a retail store when everybody wants instant delivery?

Go shopping, see something you want, price check it at Amazon and then have it sitting in the back yard by the time you get home .....

I thought the reason we don't have flying cars was due to the safety concern that if something breaks down you come crashing to earth... not that anything would break down in a flying car, just look at how well kept everyone's car on the road is!.... But I know I don't see any problem with the drones dropping off packages, I mean hell, if it cuts down on gas consumption that leaves more for the rest of us!
