figured i might as well change the fork oil while i'm at it, but how do i do that? I will be using dextron.

Sorry, I did look at those threads it just seemed a bit confusing. Do i need that special tool for what i'm doing? is it simply just dumping out the old oil and refilling?

No.You can take the caps off the top of the forks to drain and fill them.Becareful when removing they are under a little pressure.While apart get some kerosene or the likes and clean the inside of the forks.There will be a lot of goo and silver in the oil.
