Refuses to start!
11/09/13 at 13:14:31

My bike had been getting a little bit harder and harder to start over a relatively long period of time and then a few days ago just decided it wasn't going to start anymore. The batterys charged, the engine turns over. everything works just fine, it just won't light.
I checked the spark plug against the block...sparks jst fine.
I took the carburetor off and completely went through it.
Super cleaned my cone filter.

So everything seems to check out just fine. I can see no changes of anything anywhere.
Any clue????

1.Double check the battery. A weak battery will spin the starter but not fire the plug. Try jump starting it with a car battery - make sure the car is not running.

2. Try a NEW spark plug

3.Give it a shot of starting fluid in the intake and see if it fires. If it fires on the starting fluid you most likely have fuel delivery problem - petcock or carb.

4 If none of the above change anything do a compression check.

In the future, start with a battery check,, less than 12.5, charge it.

If thats good & still wont fire off,, shoot something in the intake,,ether or somethng thatll burn, Go Easy on Ether,,

Okay she starts right up. I don't know whether it was the new plug or the overnight trickle charge.

Anyway, this brings me to my next problem which never got solved:
There is a squeaking coming from my carburetor like air whooshing over the butterfly valve, cept I didn't use to hear that and there's been no change to the carburetor, cone filter, or engine. However, the appearance of the squeaking did bring upon a noticeable decrease in my performance. Cant figure it out.       Any suggestions??

Minnie is one of the coolest girls i've ever met,, and these pics are VERY G-rated.

Anyway, it's not coming from outside of the carburetor it's coming from inside. The choke and that hinge with the e-clip for the butterfly valve opposite side of the carb, did show decrease in rpm when Versy and i sprayed carb cleaner over it,, but they, and the vacuum hose for the stock petcock, have been sealed with silicone.
I mean, I'll continue to prod around the outside but i'm leaning towards inside the carb. I don't know what it would be though. I pulled apart the carb and everything looks normal.

Take the cone filter off, stretch a piece of light gauze or stocking across the carb mouth, fire it up. Some cone filters make the most god awful noises, and can drive you bonkers trying to diagnose it. If it is still noisy w/o the filter, well, you've eliminated one issue.

Also, properly tuning a CV carburetor with a cone style air filter is next to impossible.

As far as photos go... below is about as risque as Bot will allow currently...

Nice!
Nah it's not the filter. It's inside the carb.
