Thank you so much Steve H. That is exactly what I needed!! Now, I do have one other question. If I were to find the hard parts I am needing used from eBay or a junk yard.  exactly what years will interchange? Thank you so much!   Lol I do all my own work I hate paying anyone to do anything I can do or figure out. If its broke I fix it. That's my motto!!

Most of the parts have remained the same - there have been a few changes.  It might be good to start a thread to document the changes, then once we have all the updates documented we could make a final thread and put it in the technical section.

I will add some facts that I know about.

In 95 the clutch safety switch was added - the left handlebar control wiri wiring harness was changed.

In 2004 the Passing Switch was added to the right handlebar electrical control, and the Hazard light switch was added to the right handlebar electrical control.

Other items I don't have dates for:
The early bikes had a front brake light switch is different than later years.
The early bikes were 4 speeds, later bikes 5 speeds.
There is a change in the alternator and wiring.
There is a change in the starter gears with a torque limiter being added.
The early bikes had a mount for a small back rest/sissy bar, later bikes did not.
Early bikes had a seperate operator and passenger seats, later bikes a one piece seat.

Pretty sure the '88 has a clutch safety and the wiring diagram says it's there too.
The '86 wiring diagram says starter interlock for a switch in the same location so I assume it's the same.

That would make all years have a clutch safety.

'04 and later may have different signal light connectors.

'95 and later have the startor torque limiter and it requires a new stator cover.

The pulley cover is marked with 1thru4 or 1thru5, but physically are the same.
