Yamaha SR400 is back...!

Europe, of course.

Hope it comes here. As much as I loathe fuel injection, I've decided CV carbs are worse.

The 500 is also supposed to come back. Now if they bring the XS650 back from the dead, with good electrical designs, even fuel injected, I'd be on that so fast...

Kick only is another point in its favor with me. Less clutter, lighter weight, stronger case half, less wiring. All good things.

If I hadn't rehomed the kick only 1963 Honda CL72 already I would have fixed it up and gotten rid of the electric start only Savage.

Nice bike  Smiley

400cc is an engine size dictated by insurance policies, the insurance classes are 125cc, 400cc and over, so a 450/500cc bike is pointless.

Horsepower figures are also important: 15hp max for 125ccs, 48hp max for 400ccs, and over.
BUT
if you have 48hp or less with a bigger bike, you still get a discount.

This makes the Savage relatively cheap, my 110hp BMW is three times as expensive to insure  Shocked

I have just looked at the tech specs and I must say...

Tongue

I AM DISMAYED AND DISSAPPOINTED !

Embarrassed

400cc and only 23hp ?

Those were the kind of figures I had on my 1971 Ducati 450 Scrambler,
and 200cc Vespas would smoke me at the lights !  Lips Sealed

I can't believe they can't eke a few more ponies out of that thumper...

Considering that a 1998 49 state legal Savage was rated at 28 according to the booklet that came with mine... the 400 has a decent output.

Power is likely down in order to meet German emissions standards.

A 250 "Ninjette" with a decent rider is going to walk all over a Savage with your garden variety rider, so I would expect this new 400 to do the same.

Thought I wanted one till I checked the weight ... 383.6 lbs. ....so it doin't weight any less than a savage , and not belt clean either.   Sure is a step-in-the-right-direction ,

Mabby

The American modle will be the 500cc !   Roll Eyes

I like Suzuki's  TU250 style too.  Cool  but not enough HP !

Yep, that's what Suzuki should do to the LS650, and make it an "everyones" bike.

The Euopeans get all the cool small bikes because of the price of gas over there. The Ninjette was the largest selling motorcycle in the world. Dont know if thats still true or not.
