Where can I buy a replacement left side cover?
10/19/13 at 16:46:27

Left side cover vibrated off on a group ride and the guy behind me crushed it flat. Looked (and posted) on the Marketplace, but if nothing shows up there, where can I buy a one? Nothing on eBay - just a lot of RIGHT side covers.

Thanks,
David

Keep checking Ebay and one will turn up.  Pinwall in Massilon OH parts out lots of totaled motorcycles.  They have an Ebay store but you might want to give them a call.

I'm surprised there aren't any for sale here on the Marketplace with all the hacking going on in the name of building a bobber or café racer.

Didn't find one through search, but you're right, there must be some out there. To buy one new is absurdly expensive for a bit of stamped metal.

Thanks,

You may be waiting a while to find one on the used market.
I check Pinwall regularly and haven't seen one listed there
in the last 9 months.  Plenty of right sides, but no left sides.
I started checking for them when mine vibrated loose for the
second time and I wanted to have a spare in case I actually
lost it. Still haven't found one.

I'm thinking this is because a lot of people remove the air box, but there's not much reason to remove the left side cover unless you're doing a major bike mod.

I have four side covers for sale.  RYCA leftovers.  Two yellow and two silver.

I'm not sure how to price all the stuff I am about to put up for sale.  Maybe use 1/5 of the dealer price, eh?

Do the left side ones maybe go missing because they only have one screw holding them on? The RHS one has 2 screws. Looks like a candidate for an extra bracket to replace the silly tag and slot arrangement.

Pinwall Cycle parts out a lot of salvage Savages and S40's and they
rarely, if ever, have left side covers listed in their inventory.
Seems like most of the Suzy's arrive without them.
I'm going to take Justin O's advice put some locktite on mine.

Found a replacement here. Turns out mine fell off because the bracket snapped, not because the screw vibrated loose. Need to find a sturdier way to keep the replacement in place. Ideas?

Like I said, the problem in my case was not that the screw vibrated loose but that the bracket to which the cover was screwed snapped off. Don't see how sealing washers would help. Need to figure out an additional attachment or reinforce the bracket somehow.

Same exact thing happened to me. I found a left side cover at a motorcycle salvage yard, pretty cheap (cheaper than ebay) and a bracket. Have not had that problem since. I don't think it really needs reinforcing but some lock washers and you should be good. Mine has not broken off again after 6 years.
