I know where some of the most boring roads are.  Here in Kansas.  Most roads are laid out on a grid and there are miles and miles of straight roads.  It's no wonder that most motorcycles around here are big road machines.  The object of riding is to get from point a to point b at 65-70 mph.

I grew up in SW Ohio and boy do I miss the nice country roads around that area.

Highway 42 in Virginia is not all that curvy, its probably close to 150 miles long. Its mainly well kept Amish farms and some of if is the most beautiful scenery I've ever laid my eyes on. You're in a valley with mountain ranges on both sides. Its almost like you've entered a time machine and gone backwards in time 50 to 75 years. It was a 400 mile round trip (I had to cut part of 42 off) but I made it many times. It was worth the exhaustion when I arrived home Ive ridden 3 of the 15 roads Lancers article mentioned. To me the road in West Virginia, 33 is the most challenging. No cops, no traffic unlike the Dragon. I've ridden the Blue Ridge Parkway from one end to the other, not in one day. The scenery is beautiful but after a while it all starts looking alike. Its only a hr from my house, I've ridden parts of it a lot. Having ridden the Dragon twice I'm satisfied. All the traffic and cops turn me off. The guys who have never ridden before and have 300 miles on their new Harley, its just a little bit too much. My Dad has a place on Hwy. 80 ( some of you Dragon Riders have ridden it) and thats where I honed my skills.

Too late in the season now, leaves are past prime and falling off making slick spots on the roads (along with all them bouncy durn acorns and hickory nuts).  

We have done both early and late fall motorcycle trips trips before -- we start avoid the areas by about this time as it is too cold and damp/wet and cloudy/foggy all the time to be cutting around on the interesting roads for very much,

We did not get a sharp early frost this year, so the leaves have rolled to yellows and browns in a very gradual fashion (and have started to fall off).

I got back from TN and went through the Cherohala Skyway.  It doesn't get any better that east of the MS.  I took some photos with my cheap camera.  Hopefully, they came out half way decent and I get them up here soon.
