'88 suzuki intruder 750

Just picked one up last night for a thousand, she's got 42000 miles on her but she staryed up just fine, engine sounded good, very responsive. I did notice a little white come off the engine at a stop light but it was minimal and didn't happen again. Anybody familiar with these machines that could enlighten me about them? Any common problems to look for or preventive maintenance that could save me trouble in the future? Any insight or experiences welcome. Knowlege is power.

Look in the tech chunk of the Cafe for VS800/S50, same bike with a slightly bigger bore.

My wife has a 96 800 that she loves.

I have a 88 750 and love it. I just had to replace the stator and regulator on mine last week. One of the biggest pains is to remove/replace the battery. I spent the extra and got a G Man battery for it. The 750/800 is just a stretched out Savage with an extra cylinder  Cheesy

I'd say the 1400 is a Savage with an extra cylinder...

The Intruder 750 is water cooled, 10:1 compression,.. with  2 carbs.. and even 2 air filters if I remember correctly...
It's a much more modern engine with great power but, no fun to work on...
They even used that engine in a sorta' naked cafe/standard type bike for a couple of years... VX800...
Shame they stopped making that one... I kinda' liked it...

Serowbot is correct, the 750/800 is NOT fun to work on. There is not a lot of room to work.

Have to pull the engine to access the front carburetor. Lisa loves her Intruder, I despise it with a hatred normally reserved for late model fuel injected electronic ignition distributorless V8s...

I've been looking at maduras.
I think the tank capacity/fuel economy is going to stop me from getting one though Sad

Fuel capacity/range on the VS750/800 is the same as the Savage. I can go between 100-120 miles before switching to reserve on both bikes (depending on how I ride). It's nice having the extra power to get away from  traffic while on the super slab  Smiley

I love the way the 750 rides, but the savages carb was enough of a pain to get in and out, I'm dreading this

I didn't like the S50 I owned several years ago either ... in fact I couldn't stand it for the most part ...

there's not enough difference between the savage/S-40 and the intruder 700/800/S-50 to deal with the increased maintenance issues

pg,... JMHO... I rode one a bit, on a couple of occasions...
The throttle feel is very satisfying... that motor has some good go to it...
... but, it feels very top heavy,.. cramped,... (a very Japanese choppery feeling)... (elbows in the way of knees)...
... and,.. it is a chore to work on and maintain...
You don't want to change a tire, battery, air filter, adjust carbs or valves...
It's not a DIY bike... and it ain't special enough to pay someone else to do the work if you have money...
You want special... get a Ducati... Cool...
