Ever heard of Beneilli
10/10/13 at 11:23:06

Saw this in my local CG

I am not in the market for any more bikes necessarily but I seem to find myself on the CG motorcycle list about every 12 hours or so. And when I saw this ad....well.....I had to take the chance to see a "true" bobber, I had to look.

http://charleston.craigslist.org/mcy/4121088324.html

in case they take the ad down:

The name is Benelli.  They made lots and lots of small motorcycles, and they make firearms as well.  The semi-suto shotguns the Police used in a firepowers demonstration at one City I worked at was scary!

Search Benelli and look at Wikipedia....for some reason the link won't work regardless of how many times I try to post it here! Shocked

300cc?  I know they made 250/260 and 350/360 4-stroke singles.  I have a '68 250. They were sold under the Wards Riverside name

In the 80's and 90's they built large motorcycles and raced them, never much luck at winning but they were sharp.

Moto Benelli (and sister company MotoBi) built average "run of the mill" motorcycles...
...unless they felt they really wanted to surprise !

They built beautiful machines before WW2

and very interesting bikes in the 1950's and '60s, such as the OHV horizontal single in 125, 175 and 250cc. During the '70s they were noted for a screamer 2stroke twin in 125 and 250cc versions

_

They competed in the "Big Bike" category, too, initially with the british-looking 650 Tornado

then by copying Honda's CB_Four series with the 500cc, then with the  350/400 which, while characterized by better brakes, chassis and suspension, were just as expensive and had poorer quality control compared to their japanese counterparts.

The 750 /900 SEI and the "654" were the Swan's Song of Benelli.

One of the rarest bikes is the 250 Quattro, aka the "254", with a tiny 250cc four that would rev to 11.000 rpm (in the 1970's, that was awesome!)

(please note, in the background, a light blue MotoGuzzi, that was the 500cc V50 Monza, just like the one I had some 20 years ago!  Cool)

These days, Benelli have returned with the "Tornado TRE", a vicious, albeit difficult to master, racing triple in "Triumph Speed" style

They also make... designer electric bicycles...  Roll Eyes  for the discriminating lazy green city slicker !  Grin

Nice firearms, don't know much about their scoots. I don't think they were ever offered by importers here in the states.

Yep. If not the little 2 smokes that were rebadged, they were usually at the hodge podge Euro shops with Husqvarna, Gilera, Lambretta scooters, Ducati, etc. Very low demand when they were even somewhat current.

IIRC Benelli motorcycles and Benelli firearms are synonimous but not related.

With that Ferrari, who needs champagne or a car:being in my late 60's, I'd probably not live long enough to ever be vertical again. Lips Sealed
