Gas Tank Noise
10/09/13 at 16:06:15

Anyone else Gas tank make a groaning crying noise when its sitting in the garage? It goes off every few minutes. At least I think its coming from the tank. Sounds like a whine or a baby crying in the distance. I assume its air escaping or something but if you take the gas cap off and put it back on it still seems to do it.

Get that baby out of your tank!... Grin Grin Grin...

Only thing I can think of, is poor venting...
Try spraying some carb cleaner into the keyhole... Huh...

LOL, yeah its gas expanding and then pushing past a seal somewhere, most likely your cap.
My little Kawasaki ninja moans and groans all the time, it actually has a little rubber valve that lets the expanding gas escape and it sounds like its moaning.

Kinda like aawwwwww....lets go out and ride some more..... aaawwwwww. Grin Grin Grin

LOL, that's exactly what its saying. Leave that sport bike alone and take me out instead! maybe I can lube up the cap or something if there is a valve and it would quiet it. I don't recall it doing that when I first got it but I figured it was the summer heat causing it.

Would it have anything to do with a California emissions system?

lol, its def. coming from the tank but that would not surprise me at all. I was just telling someone else about my other bike, it has two models, the regular model sold in 49 states and about every country, and the California model!

Cali caps have an inlet, but no exhaust.
venting is into a carbon canister then to the carb.
I know there's a check valve in the canister that may close when the engine isn't running.  causing the mewing.

Shot a 30-30 trough the tank and the cry will be gone. A plastic decal does not the same Smiley
