Chain tensioner clip
09/30/13 at 07:27:48

Thanks everyone for their help on advice for my bike. Come to figure out I did have a leaking head gasket. So i ran into a bigger problem. The clip on the bolt that holds the cam chain tensioner in place came off and flew across the room and I can't find it, any alternatives?

Dollar and a half from this place:

But it's just a snap ring. You can probably find one that fits in a hardware or auto parts store.

shipping and handling will make wonder if it is worth it or not.

Try the local store, remember it's metric.

If you can't find one, I've got a few tucked away somewhere.

I've already order some, I just have to wait.  The auto parts store had one but it would fit completely around it - but it didn't give that tight pressured squeeze like the original.
Quick question?  Those plastic reflectors on the front of the frame near the fork, are those required by law to keep on? If not I'm ripping mine off.

Depends on where you live. Mine have been gone for years. BUT, where I live now, mufflers and turn signals ARE NOT required by law, there is no handlebar height limit, you only need to run one mirror... yep, state law violates FMVSS in regards to 1974 and newer motorcycles.  Cool

What if they are metric, most of the pales only have standard and there is a standard that fits,  also will a snap ring actually work? I heard its a circle clip

Anything that fits the slot tight enought to not fall off, and will hold the adjuster on the shaft, will work.

I'm not advocating you do this but I have seen people wrap a piece of wire around and twist tie it when they have lost a snap ring or circlip.  Seemed to hold pretty well.  I don't believe I would even think of doing something like that inside an engine though.  Outside where you could get to it and see it, maybe in a pinch until I got the right part.
