really high wall rear tyre - are they safe?

I saw this today and it got me thinking about trying something similar with the back wheel on my savage. I had been thinking about getting my rear wheel respoked to a 18" rim but the expense and time off the road has made me procrastinate. I need a new tire on the back soon so thinking maybe a tire like this one will give me the stance I need and cost me a lot less. I know it's a different look from the Ryca but I think I dig it. Are there any cons to having such a tall walled rear tire? Are they safe? Or are they another of those custom bike build ideas that look great but are totally impractical for real rider?

Well,.. you can go with 140/90-15.. that's just a bit taller... I like the extra cushion...
... but, you won't get too much taller than that before you start rubbing on the swingarm...
Guys with 18" wheels are running lower profile tires...

I don't mind grinding and welding the swingarm - that's free

I believe that is a reproduction old spec tyre.
Which had greater than 90 aspect ratio.
To get that big of a tyre on a savage you'll need the smallest rim those are made for.
Otherwise you'll raising the back end 3-1/2 feet.

Order a 135-15 Volkswagen Beetle tire. Tall, narrow, squared off like 1970s and older motorcycle tires. Should last about 15-20K miles... but it will handle atrociously until you get used to it.

You might want to use these extensions for the swing arm which will provide more room for more tire.

Don't those require a chain conversion? I need a set desperately to center the rear wheel on mine, but can't spare the scratch for a chain kit.

You might be able to get the Kawasaki KZ750 belt to fit....it is 4 teeth longer than the stock Savage belt (137 teeth vs. 133 teeth).

Near impossible to find, and a chain kit is cheaper...
MSRP is $385.63, list price is $297.98...
