Ive always had to raise the idle when its cold, then adjust down as it warms up. After aboutr 15 minutes of riding, I had itset,
Too high beats too low, any day,,
first gear, smooth, level surface, idle about 9 or 10 MPH,, IIRC, thats about right,I forgot, I just make sure its not loafing too slow

Justin, that makes sense. I thought it was just me. Every time I start the bike I find myself fiddling with the idle speed. And of course without a tach, I always err on the side of caution at the upper end.

A hundred years from now, none of this will matter.

I HATE no Tach and no Gas gauge

960 rpm idle is 8 POPs a second -- you can count them.
Redline is a 54 Hertz tone.
74 mph on the highway is 40 Hertz -- the same vibration of a cheap Motel massage bed.

I used to slap the tank at a red traffic signal -- the hollow sound says you are getting low.

My Vespa has a fuel gauge and a warning light. "E" on the gauge means you are at half tank. The light blinks on and off but goes solid with a one third full tank.  Running out and flipping to reserve is FAR better than having a gauge.

I used to run my Savage to idle at 600-800 rpm.  I liked the way it would pull it wide open throttle from 20 mph in top gear.   Probably not the best idea.
