20 weight oil? Pfff... needs at least 40 weight, I'm likely to try GL1 85W once mine is going again, since a springer is way outside of my current budget.

I've used 20 wt fork oil in my stock forks before and liked the FEEL of it.  Did you use 80 wt in your forks ?  If so, what was the difference in FEEL ?
Drilling out the holes in the damper rods will be a new step but I want to try it to see what difference will be.  I have spare rods so can return to stock if I don't like the change.

If you like the higher wt. oil, then you want more damping.
Drilling out the holes will reduce damping, thus needing even thicker oil.

I'd like to get my hands on a cartridge emulator.

YEP...emulator; I want to try as well.
Q ?   does drilling just decrease dampening or will it increase responsiveness as well ?

For the mid-high throttle range that is called a "Dial-a-jet".

I don't know what the difference between the two would be.

dampening will slow the slider motion down
in our case motion up is the same as down.

But you can only get those for real carbs... not the craptastic paperweights that our bikes are shipped with.

Haven't put 85W in the Savage, have used it in several other metrics and Harleys over the years. I LOATHE hydraulic forks, squishy, brake diving, head shaking pieces of scrap metal. I'm 7/8 and change tempted to load my Savage fork legs with cement. The beat to death Betor/Ceriani CL77 (Honda 305 Scrambler) fork on my CL72 (248cc Scrambler) ex-TT racer is at least twice as stiff as the Savage fork. And the CL fork is worn out...  Angry

I'd buy a springer if I could justify it, the 5 gallon bucket of GL-1 85wt was found under a foot of dust in the garage. You've seen my place...
