Superbrace causing MORE wobble?
09/18/13 at 05:00:48

I recently installed a superbrace for the road trip that I began yesterday. I drove the first 250 miles yesterday and I noticed that if I let go of the handlebars they would wobble back-and-forth. I never noticed that before the brace was installed and I'm wondering if it's been installed incorrectly. Can the superbrace actually increase wobble if installed wrong?

I'm new to riding so it's possible that I also just never let go of the bars with both hands before enough to notice. Is this just normal? And had I done it with superbrace off would've been more pronounced?

I've attached a pic in case someone sees something obvious. The sun isn't up here yet so I can't take a close up... Had to recycle yesterday's Instagram post. Smiley

I would try removing the black bag from the forks.....maybe the wind is buffeting the forks at speed.

Get the front wheel off the ground and loosen the superbrace up, and also loosen the axle pinch bolt. Tighten the superbrace, THEN the axle pinch bolt. When I installed mine the forks opened up a little.
And that bag, where it is, will interfere with fork travel.

I would think that if you're getting wobble with the brace now, it's because your wheel is out of balence.

Superbrace made two models for the LS650. The old one had no clearance from the fender and did damage paint. (Don't ask me how I know.
The new one has a bit of clearance, and should not damage paint.

I've never heard of a brace causing wobble... They can be installed wrong, and usually will cause some stiction of fork travel... but, I'm not aware of any inducing wobble...

I've been riding with a T-Kat for a while... and while I haven't noticed any negative effects,  I haven't noticed any positive either...
I don't think my forks flexed much before the install... but my bike is not stock,... it is lighter, has washers on the front springs, and is raised 2 inch in the rear...
A fork brace does nothing for me...  Looks pro though...  Grin...

I so love how helpful this community is. The shear amount of stuff I've learned in just a couple months of riding is amazing. The tricky part about this issues is that I did all that stuff at the same time: fork brace, new tires, handlebar bag. So it really could've been any of them but I'm happy to report that the problem is solved and it was an easy one. In the end it was... (Drum roll)...

The BAG!

Thanks to Dave and artteacher for spotting that in my pic. And fortunate for me that I posted at 6am before I could snap a close up pic or else I probably would've cropped in on just the brace.

If you are looking for some place to put that rascally bag, why not down there between the forward controls?

I just bought a TKAT brace.  Did you really not notice much of anything?  I haven't installed it yet.  Does anyone else have experience with fork braces?  I still haven't figured out why my front end wobbles / bucks from time to time.

I put a TKAT on my RYCA.  It helped the wobble a little.

That's odd that the bag was an issue, I've run them there for over 2 decades w/o issues, on multiple motorcycles.

I always thought my Savage felt best with no front fender. Too much like work to get/keep it installed squarely to the forks. Even with Loctite, the bolts vibrate loose and the fender changes angles at will, always has, even brand new.
