Whats the attraction with replacing shocks with struts? It doesn't really make it look like a hardtail but must give an insanely jarring ride? The Savage is harsh enough with suspension on. Horses for courses tho, and just my observation from our cruddy roads in Australia. Good luck with it, looks like it's coming together nicely.

I agree.  When I was first interested in motorcycles, it was a wonderfully marvelous innovation when the Triumphs and Beezers and Ariels converted from hardtails to swingarms.  So,.. my mindset from those days is hardtails are old and jarring and unsafe, while these slick new (then) bikes with rear suspensions were the cat's meow, the bees knees,... and looked really fine.  A hep cat would never be seen on an old early-fifties hardtail bike.

My early training was as an engineer.  From that standpoint, taking off a shock and putting in a bar to create a hardtail looks like a swingarm where the guy took off a shock and put in a bar to create a hardtail.  It looks goofy.

If you really do want a hardtail, and I don't mind if you do (to each his/her own,... it's YOUR bike, eh?), at least take off the swingarm, shock mounts, etc, and build one.  Not only will it look like it was intended to be that way, it will be lighter and stiffer and safer.

For example:
