Help rear shock top nut broke
09/08/13 at 13:07:02

Just got some nice new 11.5" progressive shocks & while taking off 1 of the top nut that retain the shock the bolt broke off in the nut UGH! (the previous owner had a strap break while trailerin & damaged quite a bit ground down shock & may have weaken or broke bolt?). Bolt looks like part of frame so not sure if it can be replaced or thinking of having guy that welded on smaller muffler weld the bolt back on (w/nut still on it LOL). Wondering if any have had this problem, if my idea would be safe(not break again later  Shocked ) & if it could be welded w/o damaging the new shock/grommet/etc (since the nut is still on the broken bolt)? Heres pix of the damaged stock shock & broken bolt in the nut on the new shock on bike, thanx for any imput or ideas!

Well,, that nut just acts as a keeper. YOu can drill &tap & run a bolt in with a washer.

Why couldn't I get that lucky? Perfect excuse for a weld on hardtail, chain conversion and decent seat.

Some guys have all the luck...  Wink

Talked w/handy guy who said taping might weaken arm too much so ended up welding washer to bolt then nut on for looks mostly, seems to be holding up fine so far!  Smiley

I bet it'll hold up fine, there's not a lot of lateral pressure exerted on the shocks.
