Raptor petcock replacement/loud backfire once off
09/07/13 at 13:13:49

I just recieved in my raptor petcock assembly, there is one less tube running from this petcock then the stock, what do I do with the connection it made to the carbrutor?

My savage makes a loud backfire pop only when I shut it off after a trip that's longer than about 4 miles, will replacing the petcock resolve this issue?
Thanks

Afterfires are a part of owning a Savage.

Swaping the petcock will save you the headache of fuel starvation when the stock petcock fails.

All you need to do is plug the tube on the carb side when you swap petcocks. Air leaks through the vacuum line can cause some strange issues with the carb.

Is there any way to make the after fire quieter, I work nights and live in a surburb and don't want to disturb anyone

How do you recommend capping it the connection?

Simple - just cut the existing vacuum hose short at the intake manifold port and plug it with a suitable sized cap-head screw / bolt with a little gasket goo on the threads for a good seal.  If you were running with this port open then backfiring would be worse from a too-lean condition.
