Question on saddle bag supports.....

My girlfriend bought a 1995 Savage not long ago and it had saddle bags on it but no bars behind them. She wants the bag supports so we have a question about that.
Are the supports specific to each bike? In other words, can she buy some "generic" supports off Ebay or must she get the supports that are for her specific bike. In this case a 1995 Savage.
