This is almost a test of correct jetting...
A car has automatic choke... even computer guided advance, idle speed, and airflow in modern cars...
We have a pull knob...
If you run better after a few minutes,... that's a good thing...
If you need choke under 70' degrees,.. that's a good thing...
An engine needs to run best, when warm...

If it wasn't meant to be that way,... we wouldn't have choke knobs... and modern cars wouldn't have computers doing tap dances as we warm our engines...

If you never need choke... you're way too rich...
If you always need choke, you're lean...

Honestly,.. against all conventional advice...
Err,... on the side of lean...
Extreme lean can cause damage...
... but,.. slightly lean, makes the best power per gallon,.. pollutes less,... and gives best mpg's...
JMHO... (and fact)... Huh...

Ooops!... forgot the point...
"Warming" an engine, without moving... is a waste of fuel...
An engine will warm faster on the road... just don't go wide open throttle,... and be a jackrabbit...
Don't even do that all the time anyway...
Nobodies impressed... Huh...

On the other hand, it doesn't hurt to treat it gently for the first few miles. I personally wouldn't be caning an air cooled engine until thing warm up nicely. my 2c, IMO, YMMV etc.

Well, you know, I'm only saying what works for me...and my 100,000km old, never been rebuilt Pantah. Wink.
I hope the Savage lasts as well as that one has.
