Leaking fuel near choke & bike shuts off when
08/23/13 at 09:12:40
I have a 2001 Suzuki Savage stock. I rode it a little over a week ago as it was fine. Filled up and put it back in the garage. I took it out today, muggy but warm day. Pulled out the choke and started it. It died a moment later. Continued to start it and it would die as soon as I let go of the throttle. Suddenly there is gas coming from around the choke area. As long as I have the throttle going it will stay on. Tank isn't empty and looks nearly as full as it was when I filled it. I never smelled gas and I have to pass it daily to get into my truck.
Is there some weird fluke here? I don't know much about fixing my own bike but I've got a guy.

float might be stuck.
take plastic handle of a screwdriver and rap the bowl to unstick it.

I will try that. Thank you. Would that cause it to die everytime I let go of the throttle?

I came home to try it, started right up with the choke in. I pulled the choke out and it stalled. Never had that issue before but then it didn't leak at all. I'm not sure if I should take it in or see how it starts a little later. I called my guy and we'll chat tonight.
I rapped the bowl for good measure though.

Be aware that there are more than one choke setting. I nearly always have to pull my choke to the first notch to crank it the first time of the day. All the way out in hot weather is too much and it won't idle after it cranks. Not to start a war, but I would use a dose of SeaFoam or other solvent as directed and take a 50 mile ride with no stops at highway speed. The best thing we can do for our bikes is run them often.
