So after reading through some posts, I've purchased the petcock everyone recommends.  Now, how hard is it to switch those out?  I am KINDA mechanically inclined (can change oil/filter, battery, etc) nothing major.

If you can change the oil filter you can change the petcock, you don't need to re-jet for the petcock change, and don't forget to plug the vacuum port on the carb. where the petcock tube was connected.

2 big phillips head screws if I remember correctly.

A .22 casing full of epoxy makes a pretty much permanent vacuum cap. The "rubber"ones from the auto parts store rot pretty quickly (ask Pine)...  Grin

try a cap for a copper line.

or maybe a spent shell from a 38?

You can use a cut down piece of the exisitng tube. I just cut mine down and glued a rubber cap that I had around.

I did a lot of research and prep before I switched my petcock, saw the videos a bunch of times. When I got done it was very anti-climatic as there wasn't much involved. It took more work not scratching any paint surfaces or spilling any remnants of fuel  Grin

Hey Fever, did you get this figured out?  When I did mine I just watched the videos in the tech section.  It's pretty straight forward.  And like Dane says, you can just cut the existing vacuum tube about an inch and stick a small bolt in it until you can get a cap.

Ride until you hit reserve, go home and change it. You will spend less time draining fuel.

Good thinking.  So I'm not too keen on the reserve tank.. so I turn the switch to reserve when I run out.. and when I fill the tank back up does the gas go straight into reserve then fill up the tank? (do I have to keep the switch on reserve during fueling?)

With the rubber caps on these, I remember reading somewhere on here that it'll burn off?? I might have read wrong.. but I'm guessing most of you all are using the rubber caps.. are they holding up well?

I picked up a rubber vacuum line cap at O'Reilly's and have not had any problem with it.  The cut and plugged vacuum hose works also; it just doesn't look as good.

I had two gallons in my tank when I drained it and it took about 8-10 minutes.  If you run it down to reserve then it will go much quicker.

Reserve is just a lower fuel pickup tube in the tank than the one for the "on/run" position.  When you switch the valve to the "reserve" position you just feed from the shorter pickup tube.  You'll see it when you get your new valve.

Thanks! My bike is at RevTek in Waipahu right now getting the muffler and rejet done.. (I'm not THAT mechanically inclined).  What shop do you go to (if any)?

I do all my own work on my bikes and cars.  If I need parts locally I get them from Montgomery Motors.

I need to re-jet mine soon--I've just been putting it off.

What exhaust did you go with?
