bike stalls if i stop fast
08/03/13 at 22:36:52

hey guys, my bike sometimes stalls when i pull the clutch in to stop really fast or when i pull into a driveway.  It doesnt do it all the time, but on occasion, and usually at about half a tank or less.  I have the factory petcock on it but it doesnt leak, so i havent replaced it yet.  Is this the primary contributor to the problem? Huh

Firstly,.. I'd make sure that the idle isn't too low... That is the most common reason...
If your idle is good (1,000 to 1,200rpm.. a purr not a lope)...
then,... test the Pet...

You might also check the clutch cable adjustment...

Apparently it's a Transient Enrichment Valve, choke to you and me, but it's not a choke. It feeds extra petrol in when starting, rather than choking off air. It's quite techo and some on this forum recommend that you don't interfere with it. Up the idle screw first.

TEV is different than the choke. When the vacuum in the throat increases as a result of the butterfly valve closing the throat, it activates a diaphragm that temporarily enriches the mixture, to prevent stalling. As the RPM slows the vacuum drops, the diaphragm relaxes, the mixture goes back to normal.
