NOt a Savage Related Question, But A Bike Question
08/03/13 at 22:07:32
hey guys I know this is a savage forum but my dad needs some help with his Marauder800, and i would appreciate any ideas that will help. Here goes, he has a 98 suzuki marauder 800 that wont turn over with the starter, or very rarely starts after about a 20 min ride . He has a set of screaming eagle pipes on it and other than that its bone stock, he has rebuilt the starter twice and thrown 3 or 4 new batteries in it in the last 2 years, with no better results. it has about 35k on it any ideas as to what the problem might be, I know hes pretty stressed out with it and is getting ready to put it out by the road for sale and its his baby. Thanks in advance

unfortunately I do not quite understand-the engine does not start? or not spinning a starter? and the fact that very often die battery blame likely voltage regulator.

itll crank and run but its like the battery isnt strong enough, and he says it doesnt have enough power to crank it over after it warms up he lives 1500 miles away from me so i havent heard what it does and im going by what hes telling me... i just dont wanna see him sell it hes got a lot of money into it as well as sentimental value

your feelings to me quite clear. then(if I correctly for himself translated from English to Russian and Vice versa), your father you want to replace the voltage regulator. and then the key "sores" cease to annoy him. you can check the voltage and the status of the regulator by the same method that the Savage.

Measure the volts over the battery, engine of it should be 12,5-12,7V. Engine runs it should be around 13,5-14.2V.

1. Test the reg/rec per the book.
2. Test the starter solenoid, Lisa's 96 Intruder 800 failed it on both test processes.
3. Test the stator.
4. Best thing he can possibly do to help himself with his bike IS

he needs to join it as soon as he can. If it can be fixed, they can walk him through it.
