I put on a new Metzeler ME 880 Marathon on my rear. I have @ 300 miles on it thus far. My question is, why does my bike handle so much better?
Before the road "bumps" would really push my bike around, especially seams paralleling my direction of travel would really get squirrely.....
Gotta say the extra $$$ was well spent, so much so I think I'll get the front too, even tho my tread is still pretty good up there.

The stock tire set is garbage the day it is popped out of the mold. Anything is a noticeable improvement, premium tires drastically so. Enjoy wearing it out.

Is that wider than stock? How wide of a tire can this bike take?

The 140/90 will fit perfectly, and according to the techies will make your speedo read more accurately. The 140/80 is an orphan/weird size.

I really am shocked at how bad the stock IRC tires are...
When I rode a DP bike,... I swapped to an IRC tire that was much better than stock...
They aren't a bad company,.. that tire just ain't good on this bike...
It puzzles me...
Metzler's are good high mileage tire... they have very thick tread...
I hope you ride a lot... because that tread will go 20k + miles... the problem is twofold...
1. ...you need to burn up that tread before the compound dries out... 4 to 6 years...
2. ...tread that deep will wear a flatspot in the middle before it is used up... (that's okay, if you are primarily a highway commuter,... but, if you are a canyon carver... that flat spot will create a ridge to overcome on every right or left bank...
MC tires are not like car tires,.. they need to to keep an even transition from centerwall to sidewall... otherwise, you'll get that "lift, then fall" action when going into turns... with a low traction edge to overcome in every transition...
Bike tires always wear the center tread out first...

That said,.. Metz.. really are the premium high mileage tire...
Enjoy,... and ride yer' brains out... (not literally)... Grin...

With the 140/90-15, do you have to adjust your shocks at all?

PS: I am loving my new tire from WD!!!

Good ole Dunlop Qualifier

I tried to get  a matching front.. but they only go to 18" ( not the 19" we need) They had a Shinko 100/90/19 for $66, so I snagged that. So all new rubber for me. I really want to replace the shocks.. but I just don't know if $250 is happening anytime soon.

I'm thinking about replacing my stock tires with metzelers 880s. The stock tires are not worn out yet but are not wearing well. I keep the pressure adjusted but I guess they are just cheap tires.

Are the Metzelers 880 tires tuebless or 67H and 57H tube type or does it matter.

Good to go. They are an either/or rated tire as far as the tube, not sure on the speed rating, tread wear, etc.

Yes you can, but your speedometer will still read wrong. Anyway, here you go, $154 plus shipping and fondling...http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/31/401/6127/ITEM/Metzeler-ME-880-Marat...
