What is this hose?
07/29/13 at 10:30:40

Hi,

I'm a new rider of a 2003 Suzuki Savage and there's a strange hose (?) hanging down underneath. Does anyone know what it is? Attached is a photo.

Thanks in advance!

Drain hose for the stock air box. It should have a plug and wire retainer at the end. Empty it at every oil change.

Good hunting

Wow! That was fast! Thanks for the quick response. I don't recall it hanging down like that before. Should it be tucked somewhere?

Here is another answer:

It is the drain hose for the compartment in the air cleaner that collects the oil spray from the engine breather.

Drain it when you change your oil.  It should have a tie that holds it up out of the way when you are riding.

found a factory clip at the back of engine block I believe that is where you can tuck the hose out of the way thats where I put mine anyway so it wouldnt look like a excited horse with it hanging down like that  Grin

If you install a crank case breather filter will you still have to drain it at every oil change?

No.....but that oily goo will be on the breather filter instead.  The stock filter and breather system works just fine.....until you modify your bike and move the battery and eliminate the filter box.

Just be advised that, if you leave this hose unplugged, the airbox will now be able to suck in a small amount of unfiltered air.

I'm just sayin'.

There are supposed to be two tubes that hang down. One is about half an inch in diameter and should be plugged: that one is the air box drain hose. The other is smaller, is not plugged, and is the battery vent tube.
