Does Suzuki just not pay attention to detail?

I don't mean to ruffle anyone's feather but does Suzuki do any kind of stress testing on their products?  I mean I had a RM 125 that would jump out of second gear in mid air and after I bought it I heard that RM 125's had gear box issues, then I had a LT 500 Quad Racer that had Crank Bearngs that would spin in the boss' and found out that it was a design flaw now I have a Savage that wasn't jetted correctly from the factory, has a squeaking speed odometer, and has a whining final drive.  Do the other manufacturers have these kind of issues too?  I've only owned a few other bikes like a YZ 250, CR 125 and a Honda Nighthawk 750 and the only thing I ever had to do on them was typical maintenance.

In a nut shell, that would be putting it generously... Welcome to the wonderful world of the best AJS/Matchless/BSA mutant mutt hybrid thumper that England never made...

I've had mine since 1998, they kind of grow on you.

Your accusations are all correct and right on the money.   As the miles grow, you can add more to your list (we have already fixed all of them).

Nobody would buy this bike except for a couple of sterling points.   It can be very cheap when bought used.  It fits short legged people like a 250, it has excellent torque for pulling away from stop lights (or Hurleys) and when tweeked a bit it becomes a pocketful of   WEEEE !!!  to quote the little Geico pig with his head sticking out the window.

It is also very moddable, to the point you can Cinderella it into a bobber or a Ryca.

It is a hobby
as well as transportation.   We are its support group and fan club, so it isn't like a Yammie or a Honda in that aspect.   You are not all alone out there.

Well I loved all of my Suzuki's my RM was light and very quick and I could smoke most anything else on the track as long as i didn't crash, my LT 500 could out run every Banshee out there and I liked the fact I only paid $500.00 for my Savage it's a 1999 and only has 8,000 miles on it it's ugly as sin but it gets me to work everyday and aside from the known issues that I have fixed most of them it is very mechanically sound and a blast to ride.

Show me the perfect bike,.. and I'll buy it...

I think of it as a "Hobby in Process".
I am a chronic tinkerer, short legged, and a thumper fan, so it fits me well.

Maybe Suzuki deliberately cut corners with the bike design because they knew there was a market out there for bikes with 'character.' They probably scratched their heads trying to workout why British bikes had such a following despite being so crap. So they made a crap bike and look! Here we all are.  Cheesy

On the other hand, the two Suzuki bikes (for about 40,000 mi), and the one Suzuki car I have had (14 years and 90,000 mi), have been perfect.

I have an 07' S40 and have had no issues with my bike whatsoever. It's an entry level bike and with that being said yes there are a few things I would like to have seen done differently but all in all for what it is it's a great bike!  The only thing I'm surprised about is that Suzuki has been making it for so long and hasn't addressed the cam chain tensioner  Huh

Or the wrong size rear tire, wrong brand of tires, decompression solenoid relay that fills with water, CV carburetor, poor clearcoating on outer cases and switch boxes...

They probably don't expect anyone to keep one long enough for it to become an issue. Marketing folks likely told 'em that most people would buy a Savage, ride it for half a summer, sell it and buy a Harley. Grin

Once it becomes a USED bike there isn't any reason for Suzuki to give a hoot one way or the other.
