Universal Turn Signals on the Savage

I bought some universal turn signals

but I stupidly did not check what our bikes have for voltage on the blinkers Embarrassed

. evidently its 6v. These are 12. when wired it hyperflashes. should i just return and try to find 6v or is there a really easy fix? i've been trying to find any info on this. one forum said to just put 6v bulbs in the 12v turn signal. will this work? or if i need a new flasher, anybody have suggestions? thank for any help on this.

Snap! I have the exact same blinkers on my little bobber. They came with 10w bulbs fitted and did the same very quick flashing. You need to replace them with 12v 21w bulbs of the same size. I had the part number somewhere but I'm sorry to say I've lost it. The other problem you will have with these ones is that the mounting bolt is made of some kind of cheese and breaks really easily if you do the nuts up tight. I had to make a couple of hollow bolts to replace a couple already. Just chopped up some old spare blinkers to get them. The front mounts, I cut up the stock blinkers to get the steel bung that slips into the fork bracket, drilled the middle and tapped the hole to take the screw on the new blinker. I hope that makes sense. That way, you can use the original Suzuki fork bracket. The blinker housing seems good quality, hasn't rusted or broken yet. I can take a few pics for you if you think they'll help?

awesome! thanks for the replies. i was lost on the voltages. so to sum up: new bulbs. 21 watts? i will try to find replacements. thanks again. and gizzo, i got some cheapo fork brackets. i'm trying to keep the stock stuff i take off the bike in tact so i can sell them or reinstall on the bike if i decide to sell it someday, if i dont end up altering my bike too much that is. Cheesy

Touch the lamp to 12 volts, battery or a charger. (If a 6 volt lamp it will flash once, bright, and will then be black inside.) If the lamp is bright enough for you, and you are hyper-flashing, you need to change the flasher.

Stock flasher relay, stock front lights, bulbs swapped to 1157 instead of the delicate stock version.

The flasher is a thermal unit. (it carries power, heats up, breaks the circuit, cools down, does it again) It's been tuned for the amount of power pulled by the stock lighting. Varying from that will cause either really slow or really fast flashing.

Changing to either bulbs that use the same amount of power or an electronic flasher will fix it.
