I have a starting issue with my 2000 Savage. When you press the starter button the decompression control unit makes a clicking noise. I read through the information you provided on bypassing the electrical components and tried everything to test what was wrong with the system. When I bypassed the decompression control unit (by putting a wire in the appropriate holes to link the yellow and yellow green wires) and hit the starter button, everything starts perfect (except that the decompression valve doesn't work). This lead me to believe that the control unit was faulty. After buying a new one though, the same problem persists, the decompression control unit (the new one) just makes the same clicking noise. Does anyone have any ideas? Either the new control unit is faulty as well, or something else is wrong with the starter system. ANy help would be great. Thanks

+1... the decomp usually makes one big click or nuttin'... multi clicks are usually the starter solenoid... and that's usually a weak battery...

When you bypass the decompression controller you have taken the clutch safety switch out of the loop - plus you have taken out one of the 20 amp fuses. Have you tried replacing a fuse.....and tried bypassing the clutch safety switch?
